Lament for Others

We have just started our series on Lament. This past week we talked about what it looks like to lament for other people who are enduring tragedy, hurt, sorrow, etc. With this series we are going to give you multiple ways to engage and respond to the issue. We hope you will take advantage of these resources to go deeper into the issue of lament.

Wednesday Nights

The Wave will be permanently meeting on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm starting on September 7. Come join us for community, Bible study, and some good old fashioned fun!

SIX FLAGS

The event is on Friday September 16, 2011. We will leave from church at 4:00 pm and return about 1:00 am. There will be an overnighter at the church after the event for all interested high school and junior students. Tickets cost $29 for admission only and $39 for admission with a catered all you can eat buffet. We will be travelling to and from the park together in church vehicles.

Bonfire

Bonfire August 11th at Bolsa Chica Beach. We will be down there nearly all day. Come join for dinner and desert.

Pool Party

There will be a pool party to welcome all incoming students into the youth group this Sunday (June 26) at Doc’s house. The cost is free and transportation will be provided. Please bring your swimwear to Sunday School this week!

30 Hour Famine

The 30 Hour Famine is THIS Friday and Saturday. Here are some of the details you should know if you aren’t aware already:

- Arrive at church between 5:00 pm – 6:00 pm on Friday

- You cannot bring sleeping bags but can bring pillows.

- Add up the total amount of donations you have collected.

- Be ready to go hungry, have fun, and serve.

- Invite a friend!

In the “Know”

Just so that you can stay “in the know” with The Wave Youth Ministry check out the following information:

-District Dodgeball this Friday. Cost is $5 and will be held at Anaheim First Church of the Nazarene. Feel free to invite as many friends as you want! There will be prizes for the top 3 teams! We definitely want to dominate!

-30 Hour Famine is next weekend May 27-28. The cost is FREE!!!!!!! We will begin the fast at 1:00 pm on Friday, May 27th. Feel free to invite friends. The event will be held at the church.

-Mulligan’s Fellowship Night is June 3 in Torrance. Cost is $11 for unlimited access to go-karts, arcade, putt-putt golf, and more! Bring friends. Sign up by posting a comment below or at youth group!

-This Sunday we will continue in our series titled “Jesus VS. ______.” This week we will look at the competition between Jesus and “Mr. Nice Guy.” You’re not gonna want to miss it. I have a feeling Jesus is going to dominate…

District Dodgeball

If you check out the “Upcoming Event(s)” tab to you will find that there is a district event on May 20 at Anaheim First Church of the Nazarene. It’s a Dodgeball Tournament!!!! The event will cost $5, and the winning team of the tournament will win prizes!!! You can sign up by posting a comment on this blog entry or by signing up at church on Sundays or Thursdays. Bring your friends for a Friday evening of fun (and potentially bloody noses). Hope you can make it out!

Communication = Key

I have noticed that clear communication is one of the most difficult things to achieve as a youth pastor. I’m once again trying to find avenues to bombard families (specifically parents) with the “goings on” of The Wave Ministry and Long Beach First Church of the Nazarene. The following list of ways are the mediums through which we are currently communicating or have recently began to communicate:

1) Monthly newsletters (snail mail)
2) Facebook page (recently created)
3) Website (this blog page)
5) Twitter (going to try to use more often…you can follow by clicking the link over there ——> )
4) Handouts (available in youth room)
5) Verbal announcements to kids during youth gatherings
